## Humax MX7 features explained

### What is the Humax MX7?

The MX7 is a single-phase home charger from Humax, sold through Humax Direct with or without installation. It comes as a socket version or a tethered version with a 5 m or 7.5 m cable, in black. Its distinguishing features are vehicle identification, which uses a PLC module to recognise approved cars, and V2G-ready hardware that is not yet active.

### Charging power: 7.4 kW single-phase, no 22 kW version

The MX7 charges at up to 7.4 kW on a single-phase supply. There is no three-phase version. The rate your car charges at is also limited by its own onboard charger.

### Tethered or untethered: the cable options

The socket version (SKU H95-0132) has a Type 2 socket. The tethered version (SKU H95-0131) has a Type 2 cable of 5 m or 7.5 m.

### Solar charging with CT clamps

Humax calls its solar feature SolarSmart, or Auto Solar. It sends surplus solar power to the car once the home's own energy needs are met. A CT clamp and connector are supplied in the box.

### Vehicle identification and bidirectional hardware

Humax says the built-in PLC module recognises your car when it is plugged in, so only approved vehicles can charge, and that charging is blocked and you are notified if an unrecognised car is plugged in. Humax says this can also separate personal and company-car charging for reimbursement.

The MX7 includes a PLC module and supports the ISO 15118 protocol, which Humax describes as V2G-hardware ready. Humax also states that V2G and V2H are "currently not commercially supported": AC-based V2G and V2H need the car and charger to be approved by the network operator, and the software and certification are still in progress. Humax says the MX7 cannot currently provide home backup power during an outage.

### Smart charging with Octopus, E.ON Next and OVO

The Humax Charge app starts and stops charging remotely, shows charging history and energy use, manages schedules and handles multiple vehicles. Humax says tariff management prioritises off-peak electricity rates.

On the energy suppliers' own lists (checked 4 October 2026), Humax is not listed by Octopus for Intelligent Octopus Go, by OVO for Charge Anytime, or by E.ON Next for Next Drive Smart. Octopus and OVO can also connect through compatible cars rather than the charger.

### Load balancing, earthing and installation

Humax lists built-in dynamic load balancing to keep charging within the home's available supply, and built-in PEN fault protection, stating that no earth rod is required. The charger has a tamper switch and a built-in temperature sensor. Humax Direct's standard installation includes up to 10 m of cabling, mounting on a suitable wall, protection equipment, testing, commissioning and notifications.

### App, Wi-Fi and connectivity

The MX7 connects over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Humax recommends a stable Wi-Fi connection at the charger for app features, remote control and updates, and says basic charging works without an internet connection. Two RFID cards are supplied.

### Build

Humax lists an IP65 rating and an ABS body, with adjustable LED brightness and a digital security lock. Humax does not publish dimensions, weight or an impact rating on the product pages we checked.

### Warranty: 5 years

Humax Direct lists a 5-year warranty when the product is registered online.

## Humax MX7 installation

- **Supply:** Single-phase, up to 7.4 kW
- **Earthing:** PEN fault protection built in, according to Humax
- **Protection:** Built-in PEN fault protection; tamper switch; temperature sensor
- **Load management:** Yes: dynamic load balancing
- **Solar sensor:** CT clamp and two RFID cards
- **Connection:** Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

1. **Survey.** An installer checks your supply, consumer unit, main fuse and earthing, and where the charger and its cable will go. Many do this from photos first.
2. **Notify the network operator (DNO).** Your installer tells your local network operator (DNO) about the charger, and applies first where the supply needs checking.
3. **Fit and test.** The charger goes on its own circuit and is tested. Ask for the supply sensor for solar charging to be fitted on the same visit.
4. **Connect it.** The installer connects the charger to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and sets it up in the maker's app.
5. **Set up your tariff.** Set a charging schedule for your tariff's cheap hours. Smart tariffs that control the charger directly do not list it, but some work through a compatible car.

## Quick answers

- **Max power:** 7.4 kW single-phase.
- **Tethered or socket:** Type 2 socket or tethered 5 m / 7.5 m.
- **Solar charging:** Yes. SolarSmart sends surplus solar to the car after the home's needs are met; CT clamp in the box.
- **Intelligent Octopus Go:** It is not on Octopus's list of supported chargers (checked October 2026). Intelligent Octopus Go can still work through a compatible car, and Octopus Go works with any charger set to a timer.
- **E.ON Next Drive Smart and OVO Charge Anytime:** Not on E.ON Next's Next Drive Smart list; not on OVO's Charge Anytime list (both checked 4 October 2026).
- **PEN fault protection:** Built in, according to Humax. Your installer still confirms the earthing for your home.
- **Load management:** Yes. Dynamic load balancing.
- **Connectivity:** Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
- **Vehicle-to-grid or vehicle-to-home:** Hardware ready, not yet active.

## Humax MX7 FAQs

### Can the Humax MX7 do vehicle-to-grid?

Not yet. Humax says the MX7 has V2G-ready hardware (a PLC module and ISO 15118 support), but that V2G and V2H are currently not commercially supported, with the software and certification process still in progress. It also says the MX7 cannot provide home backup power during outages at present.

### What is Humax vehicle identification?

Humax says the MX7's PLC module recognises your car when it is plugged in, so only vehicles you have approved can charge, and it notifies you if an unrecognised car is plugged in.

### Does the Humax MX7 work with Intelligent Octopus Go?

Humax is not on Octopus's list of supported chargers for Intelligent Octopus Go, or OVO's or E.ON Next's lists for their smart tariffs (checked 4 October 2026). Humax says the MX7 can schedule charging into off-peak windows, and Octopus can also connect through some cars instead of the charger.

### What warranty does the Humax MX7 have?

Humax Direct lists 5 years when the product is registered online.

### What does installing the Humax MX7 involve?

A qualified installer fits it on its own circuit, checks your supply and earthing, and notifies your network operator. Humax lists built-in PEN fault protection. For solar charging, ask for the supply sensor to be fitted on the same visit.

### Which chargers are similar to the Humax MX7?

Andersen Quartz, Cord Zero and EO Mini Pro 3 share the most charger types with it (such as solar charging, cable type and smart tariff listings). They are listed by how many types they share, then A to Z; this is not a ranking. Compare any two side by side on our compare page.

### Does the Humax MX7 support V2H or V2G?

Not yet. Humax says the Humax MX7's hardware is ready for vehicle-to-grid (V2G), but the feature is not active yet.

### How much does the Humax MX7 cost?

We do not list prices, because they change often and most people buy a charger fitted, so the price depends on the installer and your home. Ask two or three installers for a fitted price for the Humax MX7 by name. If you rent, or own a flat with private off-street parking, the EV chargepoint grant can cover 75% of the cost of buying and installing a chargepoint, up to £500.

## EV charger terms explained

- **Tethered charger:** A charger with the charging cable fixed to the unit.
- **Untethered (socket) charger:** A charger with a Type 2 socket instead of a fixed cable, so you plug in your own charging cable.
- **Type 2:** The standard connector for AC charging on cars sold in the UK and Europe.
- **Single-phase and three-phase:** Most UK homes have a single-phase supply, which limits a home charger to about 7 kW (32 A). A 22 kW charger needs a three-phase supply, and the car must accept 22 kW on AC to use it.
- **kW and kWh:** kW is charging power; kWh is energy. A 7 kW charger adds up to about 7 kWh an hour, less charging losses.
- **Solar charging:** A mode that varies the charging current to follow surplus solar generation, measured by a sensor on your supply, so the car uses power you would otherwise export.
- **CT clamp:** A current sensor clipped around a supply cable. It tells the charger how much power the home is importing or exporting.
- **Load management:** The charger lowers its charging current when the rest of the home is using a lot of power, so the main fuse is not overloaded.
- **PEN fault protection:** Protection that disconnects the charger if the combined neutral and earth (PEN) conductor in the supply fails. Chargers with it built in can usually be installed without an earth rod; your installer confirms what your supply needs.
- **RFID:** A card or key fob reader on the charger, used to stop other people starting a charge.
- **IP and IK ratings:** IP rates protection against dust and water (IP65 is dust tight and protected against water jets); IK rates impact resistance, from IK00 to IK10.
- **Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H):** Sending power from the car's battery back to the grid or the home. It needs a bidirectional charger, a compatible car and approval from your network operator, and V2G also needs a supplier offer.
- **Smart tariff charger list:** The chargers an energy supplier says it can control for its smart EV tariff, such as Octopus's list for Intelligent Octopus Go. Suppliers add and remove chargers, so we show the date we checked.
- **EV chargepoint grant:** A GOV.UK grant for people who rent, or own a flat, with private off-street parking. It can cover 75% of the cost of buying and installing a chargepoint, up to £500 (checked 4 October 2026).
