## Hypervolt Home 3 Pro features explained

### What is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro?

The Home 3 Pro is Hypervolt's current home charger. It is a 7.4 kW single-phase unit with a tethered cable, solar charging modes and automatic load management. Hypervolt no longer manufactures the earlier Home 2.0, and says the Home 3 Pro differs from the Home 3.0 in its IP66 and IK10 ratings, DIY-replaceable front cover, new mounting plate and fanless heat-sink design.

### Charging power: 7.4 kW single-phase, no 22 kW version

The Home 3 Pro is rated at 7.4 kW and 32 A maximum on a 230 V single-phase supply. Hypervolt does not sell a three-phase version. The rate your car charges at is also limited by its own onboard charger.

### Tethered cable: 5 m, 7.5 m or 10 m

The Home 3 Pro is tethered only. The cable is 5 m as standard, with 7.5 m and 10 m options, and comes with a Type 2 connector or, up to 7.5 m, a Type 1 connector. A cable holster is included in the box.

### Solar charging with CT clamps

Hypervolt lists these charging modes:

- **Boost** charges as quickly as possible using grid power.
- **EcoMode** uses solar first and switches to the grid if solar output drops below 1.4 kW.
- **Super EcoMode** only uses solar, and pauses charging when solar output drops below 1.4 kW.

Hypervolt also lists Ultra Mode, which schedules charging for cheaper and lower-carbon times, and Battery Safe mode, which charges without drawing energy from a home battery. One CT clamp is included in the box; a second, used for home battery monitoring, is ordered separately.

### Smart charging with Octopus, E.ON Next and OVO

Charging can be scheduled in the Hypervolt app, which also shows energy use and costs. Hypervolt lists "direct integration" with Intelligent Octopus Go and OVO Charge Anytime.

On the energy suppliers' own lists (checked 4 October 2026):

- **Octopus Energy** lists the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro as supported for Intelligent Octopus Go.
- **OVO Energy** lists Hypervolt as a compatible smart charger for Charge Anytime.
- **E.ON Next** lists Hypervolt as supported for Next Drive Smart.

### Load balancing, earthing and installation

Automatic load management reduces the charging rate in real time when other demand in the home rises, so total demand stays within the fuse limit. The charger has an internal 6 mA DC RCD and integrated PEN fault protection compliant with Amendment 2 of BS 7671:2018; external Type A AC protection is required, and Hypervolt recommends a 40 A B or C curve MCB or RCBO. Five thermal sensors adjust the charging rate at high temperatures.

### App, Wi-Fi and connectivity

The installation guide lists Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) and Bluetooth LE 4.2, and a wired Ethernet connection is optional. Hypervolt lists over-the-air updates.

### Size and dimensions: 328 x 243 x 101 mm

The Home 3 Pro measures 328 x 243 x 101 mm (height x width x depth). Weight depends on the cable: 6.2 kg (5 m), 6.9 kg (7.5 m) or 7.3 kg (10 m). The enclosure is made from polycarbonate and glass-filled nylon, rated IP66 and IK10, with 95% UV protection, and operates from -25°C to 40°C. Front covers come in Ultra White, Space Grey and Ultra Black and can be swapped without an electrician. It can be wall or pole mounted.

### Warranty: 3 years

The standard warranty is three years from installation when installed by a qualified electrician. Hypervolt sells a 24-month extension, taking cover to five years, which must be bought within 30 days of installation. The installation guide says the unit must be registered as installed within 48 hours to validate the warranty.

## Hypervolt Home 3 Pro installation

1. **Survey.** An installer checks your supply, consumer unit, main fuse and earthing, and where the charger and its cable will go. Many do this from photos first.
2. **Notify the network operator (DNO).** Your installer tells your local network operator (DNO) about the charger, and applies first where the supply needs checking.
3. **Fit and test.** The charger goes on its own circuit and is tested. Ask for the supply sensor for solar charging to be fitted on the same visit.
4. **Connect it.** The installer connects the charger to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Ethernet and sets it up in the maker's app.
5. **Set up your tariff.** If you switch to a smart tariff that lists it (Intelligent Octopus Go, E.ON Next Drive Smart, OVO Charge Anytime), add the charger in the supplier's app so it can schedule charging. On a fixed-window tariff, set a schedule for the cheap hours.

## Hypervolt Home 3 Pro FAQs

### Is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro tethered or untethered?

Tethered only. Hypervolt says the Home 3 Pro is currently only available with a cable attached: 5 m as standard, or 7.5 m or 10 m. The 10 m cable is only available with a Type 2 connector.

### How does Hypervolt solar charging work?

Hypervolt lists two solar modes. EcoMode uses solar first and switches to the grid if solar output drops below 1.4 kW. Super EcoMode only uses solar and pauses when it drops below 1.4 kW. One CT clamp is included in the box.

### Does the Hypervolt need an earth rod?

Hypervolt's installation guide lists integrated PEN fault protection compliant with Amendment 2 of BS 7671:2018. An external Type A RCD is still required. Your installer confirms the earthing arrangement for your property.

### Does Hypervolt work with Intelligent Octopus Go?

Yes. Octopus lists the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro (and Home 3 and Home 2) as supported for Intelligent Octopus Go (checked 4 October 2026). OVO and E.ON Next also list Hypervolt for Charge Anytime and Next Drive Smart.

### What warranty does the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro have?

Three years from installation as standard. A 24-month extension, taking cover to five years, can be bought at checkout within 30 days of installation. Hypervolt's installation guide says the unit must be registered as installed within 48 hours to validate the warranty.

### Which chargers are similar to the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro?

Andersen A3, Andersen Quartz and Cord Zero share the most charger types with it (such as solar charging, cable type and smart tariff listings). They are listed by how many types they share, then A to Z; this is not a ranking. Compare any two side by side on our compare page.

### Does the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro support V2H or V2G?

No. Hypervolt does not publish vehicle-to-home (V2H) or vehicle-to-grid (V2G) support for the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro, so it charges the car only.

### How much does the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro cost?

We do not list prices, because they change often and most people buy a charger fitted, so the price depends on the installer and your home. Ask two or three installers for a fitted price for the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro by name. If you rent, or own a flat with private off-street parking, the EV chargepoint grant can cover 75% of the cost of buying and installing a chargepoint, up to £500.

## EV charger terms explained

- **Tethered charger:** A charger with the charging cable fixed to the unit.
- **Type 2:** The standard connector for AC charging on cars sold in the UK and Europe.
- **Single-phase and three-phase:** Most UK homes have a single-phase supply, which limits a home charger to about 7 kW (32 A). A 22 kW charger needs a three-phase supply, and the car must accept 22 kW on AC to use it.
- **kW and kWh:** kW is charging power; kWh is energy. A 7 kW charger adds up to about 7 kWh an hour, less charging losses.
- **Solar charging:** A mode that varies the charging current to follow surplus solar generation, measured by a sensor on your supply, so the car uses power you would otherwise export.
- **CT clamp:** A current sensor clipped around a supply cable. It tells the charger how much power the home is importing or exporting.
- **Load management:** The charger lowers its charging current when the rest of the home is using a lot of power, so the main fuse is not overloaded.
- **PEN fault protection:** Protection that disconnects the charger if the combined neutral and earth (PEN) conductor in the supply fails. Chargers with it built in can usually be installed without an earth rod; your installer confirms what your supply needs.
- **RCD and RCBO:** Devices that cut the power if current leaks to earth. Some chargers need a Type A RCD or RCBO fitted at the consumer unit; the maker's installation notes say which.
- **RFID:** A card or key fob reader on the charger, used to stop other people starting a charge.
- **IP and IK ratings:** IP rates protection against dust and water (IP65 is dust tight and protected against water jets); IK rates impact resistance, from IK00 to IK10.
- **Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H):** Sending power from the car's battery back to the grid or the home. It needs a bidirectional charger, a compatible car and approval from your network operator, and V2G also needs a supplier offer.
- **Smart tariff charger list:** The chargers an energy supplier says it can control for its smart EV tariff, such as Octopus's list for Intelligent Octopus Go. Suppliers add and remove chargers, so we show the date we checked.
- **EV chargepoint grant:** A GOV.UK grant for people who rent, or own a flat, with private off-street parking. It can cover 75% of the cost of buying and installing a chargepoint, up to £500 (checked 4 October 2026).
