Is It Worth It?
The Andersen Quartz answers a question the A3 and A2 could not: what if you want an Andersen charger without committing to a fixed tethered cable? The Quartz gives you the same 7-year warranty, the same Octopus Intelligent Go compatibility, and the same solar support as the rest of the Andersen range, in a more compact body, with the freedom to choose socketed or tethered, and at a starting price below £700.
The Andersen Quartz is the right choice if you want Andersen design and the flexibility of either cable configuration, or if your property has three-phase supply and you want premium aesthetics alongside 22kW capability.
It is not the strongest choice if your priority is the lowest possible installed cost.
Charging Performance
Single-Phase and Three-Phase in One Product
The Quartz’s most practically useful feature is its ability to serve both 7kW single-phase and 22kW three-phase properties from a single hardware platform. Most UK homes are single-phase, delivering 7kW, which is sufficient for a full overnight charge on any modern EV, adding roughly 25 to 30 miles of range per hour. Homes with three-phase supply can access up to 22kW, adding approximately 75 miles per hour.
The A3 is limited to 7kW single-phase only. If you have three-phase supply and want Andersen design, the Quartz or the A2 are your options.
Socketed or Tethered
The socketed version takes any Type 2 cable, giving you flexibility to choose cable length and keep the wall unit clean when not in use. The tethered version includes a built-in cable, and you can specify a cable hook at configuration to store the cable neatly under the unit. Andersen does not publish tethered cable lengths for the Quartz, so confirm the length when ordering. The Andersen Quartz does not include the hidden cable storage mechanism used in the A3 and A2; the cable is not concealed within the unit.
Build Quality and Finish
The Quartz is the most compact charger Andersen has made: the company says it is 34% shorter and 45% narrower than the A3, at 16cm tall and 7cm wide. With over 100 colour combinations across 11 colour choices, the Quartz offers the widest choice of any Andersen charger. Four standard colours are included in the £695 base price; seven premium metallic finishes and optional Accoya wood or carbon fascias are available at additional cost.
The Vision Display (Optional)
For £88 at configuration, the Vision upgrade adds a 4.3-inch digital display to the front of the unit, showing live session data such as energy delivered and cost. The display has three brightness settings and powers down automatically when not in use. The standard Quartz has no on-unit screen.
Smart Features and Energy Tariffs
Andersen App
The Andersen app provides real-time charging status, scheduled charging, remote control, energy monitoring, and session history. If you have solar panels, the app lets you control how much solar energy is used for each session and monitor your solar usage.
Intelligent Octopus Go
As of September 2025, all Andersen Quartz chargers are integrated with Intelligent Octopus Go, with off-peak smart charging rates from around 7p per kWh according to Andersen. OVO Charge Anytime is also supported across the Andersen range.
Wi-Fi Connectivity
The Quartz relies on home Wi-Fi for smart features and app control. A stable Wi-Fi signal at the install location is required. If your garage, driveway, or carport is some distance from the router, you may need a Wi-Fi range extender. Andersen does not advertise a 4G fallback for the Quartz.
Solar Charging
The Quartz is part of Andersen’s range of solar compatible charge points. If you have solar panels, you can use surplus locally generated energy to charge your EV, control how much solar energy is used for each session, and monitor solar usage through the Andersen app. For buyers who want solar compatibility without complexity, the Quartz handles it cleanly.
Installation
The Quartz is configured to order. Andersen’s own in-house team of electricians is available for a full-service experience, with fully installed prices starting from £1,120.
For the OZEV grant, worth up to £500 off the installation cost for eligible renters and flat owners, funding is confirmed until 31 March 2027.
How It Compares
Andersen Quartz vs Andersen A3
The A3 is tethered only, limited to 7kW single-phase, and features the hidden cable storage system. It starts from £995. The Quartz starts from £695, is available socketed or tethered, and handles both 7kW and 22kW, but does not include the hidden cable.
Buy the A3 if the hidden cable system and its distinctive kerb appeal are the main reasons you are choosing Andersen. Buy the Quartz if you want more configuration flexibility, need 22kW, or want a lower entry price.
Andersen Quartz vs Ohme Home Pro
The Ohme Home Pro is a strong option if smart tariff automation is your priority, as Ohme has built its product heavily around tariff optimisation. The Andersen Quartz counters with its 7-year warranty, design and colour options, and configuration flexibility.
