Is It Worth It?
The Andersen Quartz answers a question the A3 and A2 could not: what if you want Andersen quality without committing to a fixed tethered cable? The Quartz gives you the same 7-year warranty, the same finish quality, the same Octopus Intelligent Go compatibility, and the same solar support as the rest of the Andersen range — in a more compact body, with the freedom to choose socketed or tethered, and at a starting price below £700.
The Andersen Quartz is the right choice if you want Andersen design quality and the flexibility of either cable configuration, or if your property has three-phase supply and you want premium aesthetics alongside 22kW capability.
It is not the strongest choice if your priority is deep smart tariff automation or the lowest possible installed cost.
Charging Performance
Single-Phase and Three-Phase in One Product
The Quartz’s most practically useful feature is its ability to serve both 7kW single-phase and 22kW three-phase properties from a single hardware platform. Most UK homes are single-phase, delivering 7kW — sufficient for a full overnight charge on any modern EV, adding roughly 25 to 30 miles of range per hour. Homes with three-phase supply can access up to 22kW, adding approximately 75 miles per hour.
The A3 is limited to 7.4kW single-phase only. If you have three-phase supply and want Andersen design, the Quartz or the A2 are your options. The Quartz delivers that without the A2’s premium price.
Socketed or Tethered
The socketed version takes any Type 2 cable, giving you flexibility to choose cable length and keep the wall unit clean when not in use. The tethered version includes a built-in cable in 5.5m, 6.5m, or 8.5m lengths depending on your supply type. The Andersen Quartz does not include the hidden cable storage mechanism used in the A3 and A2 — the cable is not concealed within the unit.
Build Quality and Finish
The Quartz is built from premium materials with IP65-rated aluminium casing (confirmed for the 22kW version; buyers should verify the 7kW variant with Andersen). With over 100 colour combinations across 11 colour choices, the Quartz offers the widest choice of any Andersen charger. Four standard colours are included in the £695 base price; seven premium metallic finishes and optional Accoya wood fascias (+£94) are available at additional cost.
The Vision Display (Optional)
For £88 at configuration, the Vision upgrade adds a 4.3-inch digital display to the front of the unit, showing live session time, energy delivered, and cost. The standard Quartz has no on-unit screen.
Smart Features and Energy Tariffs
Andersen App
The Andersen app provides real-time charging status, scheduled charging, remote control, energy monitoring, and session history. The included CT clamp lets you monitor both solar generation and property load directly in the app, enabling the charger to prioritise surplus solar energy before drawing from the grid.
Intelligent Octopus Go
From September 2025, all Andersen Quartz chargers are integrated with Intelligent Octopus Go — one of the cheapest overnight EV charging tariffs in the UK, currently around 7 to 8p per kWh during the off-peak window. Units purchased before September 2025 received the integration automatically via firmware update. OVO Charge Anytime is also supported.
Wi-Fi Connectivity
The Quartz relies on home Wi-Fi for smart features, using 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4GHz. Bluetooth BLE 5 is used only during initial setup. A stable Wi-Fi signal at the install location is required. If your garage, driveway, or carport is some distance from the router, you may need a Wi-Fi range extender. Unlike some rivals, the Quartz does not include 4G as a fallback.
Solar Charging
Solar integration is available on 7kW units via the included CT clamp, which monitors both solar generation and property load. This enables surplus solar charging, prioritising excess solar energy before drawing from the grid. You can configure solar-only or a solar-and-grid blended mode through the app. For buyers who want granular mode-by-mode solar control, the Zappi remains more capable. For buyers who want solar compatibility without complexity, the Quartz handles it cleanly.
Installation
The Quartz is made to order with a typical lead time of 7 to 10 days. Andersen’s own installation team is available for a full-service experience. Installed prices start from approximately £1,130 when Andersen’s team handles the job. Earth monitoring and PME monitoring are included for enhanced safety. No earth rod is required, which simplifies installation and reduces cost. The unit should be installed between 0.75m and 1.2m from ground level.
For the OZEV grant — up to £500 off the installation cost for eligible renters and flat owners — the grant runs until March 2027.
How It Compares
Andersen Quartz vs Andersen A3
The A3 is tethered only, limited to 7.4kW single-phase, and features the hidden cable storage system. It starts from £995. The Quartz starts from £695, is available socketed or tethered, and handles both 7kW and 22kW — but does not include the hidden cable.
Buy the A3 if the hidden cable system and its distinctive kerb appeal are the main reasons you are choosing Andersen. Buy the Quartz if you want more configuration flexibility, need 22kW, or want a lower entry price.
Andersen Quartz vs Ohme Home Pro
The Ohme Home Pro is the stronger option if automated smart tariff optimisation is your priority. Its direct API connection to Octopus Energy enables automatic half-hourly optimisation. The Andersen Quartz wins on warranty length (7 years vs 2 years for Ohme), design quality, and configuration flexibility.
