How to choose an EV charger installer
Installing a home EV charger involves electrical work that must comply with UK wiring regulations (BS 7671). While any competent electrician can carry out the work, there are a few key things to check before you book.
Check OZEV approval
If you want to claim the OZEV grant (worth up to £350 for eligible properties), your installer must be on the government's approved list. Ask specifically whether they are OZEV-registered before booking.
Confirm NICEIC or NAPIT registration
A competent-person scheme registration (such as NICEIC or NAPIT) means the installer can self-certify the electrical work, removing the need for a separate building-control inspection and saving you time and money.
Get at least two quotes
Installation costs vary considerably depending on the distance from your consumer unit, cable routing complexity, and the charger model you choose. Always compare at least two quotes before committing.
Ask about aftercare and warranties
A reputable installer will provide a certificate of completion and be happy to discuss warranty terms on both the charger hardware and their installation work. Check Google reviews for mentions of post-install support.
