§ The verdict

The honest summary.

The Easee One is one of the UK's best-selling home chargers for good reason. It combines Scandinavian design with practical flexibility, letting you switch between tethered and untethered modes via the app. Built-in 4G means it works without Wi-Fi, and dynamic load balancing future-proofs multi-EV homes. The LED status display has a steep learning curve, and solar requires the optional Equalizer accessory, but at £895 it represents strong value in the premium mid-range.

The Easee One is one of the most popular home EV chargers on the market and one of our favourites. It has a strong presence in the UK market, having been specifically developed to meet the needs and preferences of UK consumers, with high customer satisfaction and design appeal. The charger is compact, cost-effective, and has a sleek Scandinavian design with clean lines and geometric minimalism. It has a 7kW charging capacity and is considered one of the best EV chargers on the market.

One of the standout features of the Easee One is its flexibility: it can function as both a tethered charger and an untethered charger, allowing users to switch between modes via the app for maximum convenience. Unlike chargers with a permanently attached cable, the Easee One offers a cleaner look and lets users choose a cable length that suits their needs, enhancing both aesthetics and practicality.

While the charger is competitively priced, users should be aware of any additional cost for optional features or accessories. The Easee One app also allows users to input a fixed price per kWh for accurate tracking of charging costs, which is especially useful for those on single-rate electricity tariffs.

The Easee One is a smart charger, offering advanced connectivity and remote management via Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Power Output and Charging Rate

As electric vehicles become more popular, we are beginning to expect more and more out of their capability to keep us moving. That is why it is important to find a unit that has an adequate amount of charging power, so that we can efficiently get from A to B.

Thankfully, the Easee One is more than capable.

With a charging power of 1.4 to 7kW, the charging speed is suitable for most drivers, providing efficient overnight EV charging for daily needs. At a full-powered charge, you will be getting about 28 to 30 miles of drive time per hour (roughly 50km per hour).

Connector Type

Living up to its name, the Easee One makes things simple here, accepting any Type 2 charging cable that you have on hand.

The unit features a cable lock feature that securely locks the charging cable in place, providing added security and peace of mind. Through the app, users can easily switch between tethered and untethered mode, allowing you to remove or attach the cable based on your preference and convenience.

Having the flexibility to adapt to any Type 2 cable means that you have the choice of cable length that best suits your setup, enhancing both practicality and aesthetics. Whether you want a shorter cable for a cleaner look or a longer one for more reach, the choice is yours.

This flexibility is fantastic, as it means you are not locked to a unit with an unnecessarily long 10m charging cord. Some suppliers include a cable as part of the purchase, although this is not standard, so check with the installer you are purchasing from first.

Size and Dimensions

Size is important, especially when it comes to placing a rather conspicuous electric box on the side of your house.

The Easee One measures H: 256mm x W: 193mm x D: 106mm, making it a relatively average-sized unit for domestic charging.

Despite this, its triangular physique makes it feel a little smaller than the traditional rectangular charging unit. The compact design also minimises wall space usage, making it ideal for homes with limited installation area.

Design

Norway has a history of producing innovative and sleek designs, without disqualifying the need for quality materials.

Lucky for us, the Norwegian team at Easee have kept the legacy alive, as this unit is slick.

With a matte angular face, it opens up to the charging point at the bottom of the unit where all the angles meet, which gives the charger an intentional, solid appearance. The Easee One is designed specifically to meet the needs and preferences of UK homeowners, combining style with functionality.

If the minimal design is not enough to sway any aesthete’s reading, perhaps realising that it comes in five different colours will.

Available in black, carbon grey, white, navy blue, and crimson red, Easee have addressed one of the biggest gripes with monotone single-colour designs.

While the colour of your unit may seem like a small factor, it goes a long way in matching your environment to create either a seamless or distinctive appearance for your home.

LED Light Strip

There is one design feature that Easee included that perhaps went a little too far on the innovation scale.

While it is cool and minimalistic, the complex LED light strip status display takes quite a bit of getting used to.

This LED strip indicates the status of the charger and its charging session with your vehicle.

There are many different modes that it displays, and it is the only means of comprehending the status of the charger unless you check the app.

The modes are as follows:

  • White light solid but half-full: charger on standby
  • White light flashing but half-full: unit searching for master unit
  • White light solid and full: the car is connected
  • White light pulsing: charging in progress
  • Blue light solid: smart charging enabled
  • Blue light pulsing: smart charging in progress
  • White light flashing: RFID tag authentication
  • Red light: general error
  • Red light with warning sounds: broken PEN or wiring fault
  • Red light pulsing: abnormal temperature, charger in safe mode
  • Yellow light flashing: the charging unit needs configuring

As you can see, it can get rather complicated.

Connectivity

The Easee One covers all bases on the connectivity front, with an integrated 4G eSIM in each box, with a free subscription for life. If users experience connection issues due to a weak mobile signal, the Wi-Fi connection serves as a reliable backup to maintain smart functionality.

There is also the possibility to connect via Wi-Fi if that suits your setup.

Earth Rod Built In

Installation is eased with a few key features of this charger, including integrated open PEN conductor protection. The Easee Equalizer accessory can also help prevent overloading the main fuse during high-demand situations by intelligently managing load distribution.

This means that you will not require an earth rod, resulting in less stress on hardware logistics and a smoother process overall.

Who Are Easee?

Established in 2018 by three Norwegian entrepreneurs, the team was focused on trying to produce the world’s smartest electric vehicle charger.

This is a goal they continue to work towards as they invoke their products with innovative technological solutions to produce a seamless charging and power management service.

The company now has 400+ employees and is based in the UK, the Netherlands, and Germany, exporting its products to 17 European countries.

With ambitions of becoming one of the largest green technology companies in the world by 2031, it would seem that Easee is not here just to play around in a developing market. Easee is also recognised for its responsive support team and exceptional customer service, which consistently contribute to high customer satisfaction.

Is the Easee One Solar Compatible?

Despite all of its great features and stylish design, the Easee One does not have built-in solar integration. However, solar charging is possible with the addition of the Easee Equalizer accessory, which enables integration with solar panels and supports dynamic load balancing. This Easee Equalizer accessory is required for solar compatibility and may involve an additional cost.

We would also like to see automatic EV tariff optimisation in future models, which will become an increasingly important feature given the cost of electricity rises we have seen recently.

Charge Scheduling

Like most smart chargers today, the Easee One has scheduling options that allow you to have comprehensive control over your charging routine.

Scheduled charging lets you set charging sessions during off-peak hours, so you can take advantage of lower off-peak rates and reduce your electricity costs.

Functions include making a weekly charging plan or delaying the start time of a charging session.

The charging schedules can be created, edited, and adapted all in the Easee app.

App Control

Considering application software is one of the biggest problem areas in the electric vehicle charging sphere, it is nice to be offered respite with Easee’s comprehensive smartphone app, which allows you to manage and control the charger remotely.

When looking at the design of the unit, it comes as no surprise that the software used to operate it is equally clean, minimal, and functional.

The home screen of the app provides quick access to charge status, scheduling, and settings, making it easy to monitor and control your charging sessions.

Some of the functions and features offered by the app include:

  • Monthly reports of kWh usage, alongside graphs to show your power spikes
  • Lifetime readouts of kWh, to know how much you have used in the long run
  • Delegation of the power (W) and currents used while charging
  • Start, stop, and pause charging controls
  • Set permanent cable lock for tethered charging
  • Create, edit, and delete charging schedules

For cost tracking, the app allows users to input a single electricity price, but it does not currently support integration with smart tariffs or variable rate electricity plans, which may affect the accuracy of cost estimates for users on dynamic pricing.

Load Balancing

One of the biggest features is the dynamic load balancing the Easee One provides. With this, you can have up to 101 chargers on one circuit. While this may not be needed for your average home, the Easee One intelligently manages available power across multiple chargers on the same circuit, supporting up to three units for multi-EV households. This ensures efficient power distribution and future-proofs your setup as you add more electric cars.

Easee One Reviews

The Easee One is one of the most popular home chargers in the UK, generally reviewed well by both industry professionals and, importantly, users. Compared to other chargers, the Easee One stands out for its smart features, user-friendly design, and competitive pricing, making it a strong alternative for those seeking a reliable home charging solution.

Easee as a company has a 4.1 ‘great’ Trustpilot score, which is favourable compared with some other manufacturers. Rest assured, the Easee One complies with all relevant UK regulations, including BS 7671, ensuring safety and legal installation for your home.

Similar Chargers

As the Easee One is a full-featured and mid-to-premium EV charger, we would recommend comparing it with the Hypervolt for a similar price bracket with strong solar integration, or the Indra Smart Pro if tariff automation is your priority.

The Andersen A3 brings a more premium aesthetic, though at a significantly higher price point.
