What untethered means
An untethered charger, also called socketed or universal, has a Type 2 socket instead of a fixed cable. You plug in a separate charging cable, which can be any length and, with the right cable, can suit a car with a Type 1 or Type 2 inlet.
Most new cars come with a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for this kind of charger, but check before you buy. Several socketed chargers can lock the cable into the socket, either temporarily or permanently, so it cannot be removed by someone else.

Does an untethered charger come with a cable?
Usually not. Manufacturers sell cables separately, and many cars come with one. Each listing below says what the manufacturer offers.
Can I leave the cable plugged into an untethered charger?
Many socketed chargers lock the cable in place while charging, and some, including the Easee One, Rolec EVO and Zaptec Go, let you lock it permanently so it behaves like a tethered charger.
