Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD FAQs

Is the Model Y Long Range AWD worth the premium over the RWD?

It depends on use. The Long Range AWD adds all-wheel drive traction and an extra 32 miles of WLTP range over the RWD. The 1,600kg tow rating is shared with the RWD. If you regularly drive in poor conditions or need the extra range for longer trips, the upgrade makes sense.

Can the Model Y Long Range AWD tow a caravan?

Yes, it is rated at 1,600kg braked. That is sufficient for a lightweight touring caravan or a twin-axle trailer. Towing will significantly reduce real-world electric range, so plan charging stops carefully on longer towing journeys.

Does the Long Range AWD support V2L or V2H?

No. Tesla does not offer V2L, V2H, or V2G on any current UK model. For V2L or V2H capability in a large family SUV, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Long Range AWD is the closest like-for-like alternative.

How does the charge speed compare to the RWD?

Both the RWD and Long Range AWD share the same 250kW maximum DC charge rate and 11kW AC onboard charger, so charge times are effectively identical at around 25 minutes from 10% to 80%.
